Each of the three tRNA binding sites on a ribosome serves a specific function in translation. Drag the terms on the left to the appropriate blanks on the right to complete the sentences.

1. The E siteis empty except immediately after the mRNA and bound tRNA translocate, or movethrough the ribosome.
2. The A siteis the location in the ribosome where codon recognition occurs.
3. After formation of the new peptide bond, the P siteholds a tRNA that is no longer linked to anamino acid. The P site has a tRNA with an attached chain of amino acids. The E site has no tRNA (either with or without an attached animo acid). The A site has a tRNA with no attached amino acids. At least two sites have tRNAs with one or more attached amino acids.

Answer:

Explanation: Ribosomes are consist of four binding sites, one for mRNA and three for tRNA. The three tRNA sites are referred to as P, A, and E. The P site is called the peptidyl site, it binds to the tRNA holding the growing polypeptide chain of amino acids. The A site (acceptor site), binds to the aminoacyl tRNA, which holds the new amino acid to be added to the polypeptide chain. The E site (exit site), serves as a threshold, the final exiting step.

The ribosome is the site for protein synthesis. Once the small subunit associates with an mRNA molecule, the two subunits come together, creating a link that keeps the mRNA and tRNA in stable and proper orientation for protein synthesis.
