more than $230 for the rental and the course. If the

In this question, we're trying to find how many hours Maria can rent the boat for.

We know that the boat rental costs $60 per hour

We also know that she has to pay a one-time fee of $10 for a safety course

Turn this into a equation:

y = 60x + 10

However, she doesn't want to spent no more than $230. Add that to your equation

230 = 60x + 10

Solve the equation to see how many hours she can rent the boat for.

230 = 60x + 10

Subtract 10 from both sides

220 = 60x

Divide both sides by 60

3.67 = x

Since the boat can ONLY be rented by whole hours. With the money Maria has, she can only rent the boat for 3 hours.

Answer:

3 hours
