Answer:

In the beginning, most fossils that were found were of soft bodied animals which led to their decay quicker. Additionally, the movement of the tectonic plates destroyed the fossil records. Due these reason, a lot of fossils that are found are unfamiliar to the scientists.

But with time, as the scientific knowledge is increasing, the processes to deal with fossil operations has become more precise to avoid damaging the fossil and also figuring out their origins.

Answer:

The Piltdown Man

Step-by-step explanation:

  • One of the biggest hoaxes in science, the Piltdown Man was a combination of forged fossils, initially regarded as the "missing link" between ape and humans.
  • In 1912, British archaeologists Arthur Smith Woodward and Charles Dawson reported the discovery of a human fossil at Piltdown that could potentially be the missing link in human evolution.
  • Initially hailed as a remarkable discovery, the fossils were later proved to be only about 50,000 years old.
  • Kenneth Oakley, a geopaleontologist at the Natural History Museum, proved that the jaw and mandible of the fossilized skull belonged to an orangutan and the parts of the cranium belonged to a modern human.
