Your weight is currently stable, however, your doctor tells you that you are overweight and could lose some weight. You have chosen to give up your daily 215-calorie mocha latte coffee. About how much weight can you expect to lose over 1 month if you only make this one change in your diet?

Answer: It means a loss of 1.8429 pounds in a month (30 days) period of time.

Explanation:3500 calories are equivalent to 1 pound. So to loose a pound a week you need to reduce that amount of calories in your diet. Now we are informed we reduce 215 calories a day for a month. That means for a 30 days period 6450 calories (215 * 30), then if 3500 calories imply a pound of fat. Then we can use a rule of three to calculate how much weight loss the 6450 calories reduce means. Then

3500 ------------> 1 pound

6450-------------> x

x= 6450* 1 /3500 = 1.8429 pounds in the 30 days period.
