Answer:

x = 17000

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data:

invested amount is $26 000 in 2 accounts

for one account - interest rate is 5%

for second account interest rate is 8%

total amount received is $1570

assume x is amount in invested in first account

y is amount is invested in second amount

x + y = 26000

we know that total amount recieved is $1570 hence we have

0.05 x + 0.08 y = 1570

solving for x

x = (1570 - 0.08y)/(0.05)

putting x value in above equation

(1570 - 0.08y)/(0.05) +  y = 26000

multiply eq by 0.05

1570 - 0.08y + 0.05 y = 26000 * 0.05

1570 - 0.03y = 1300

270 = 0.03 y

y = 9000

hence x = 17000
