A coin-operated drink machine was designed to discharge a mean of 6 ounces of coffee per cup. Suppose that we want to carry out a hypothesis test to see if the true mean discharge differs from 6. State the null hypothesis h0 and the alternative hypothesis h1 that we would use for this test

Answer: H0 : u = 6 ounces

Ha : u not equal to 6 ounces

Explanation:

The null hypothesis (H0) tries to show that no significant variation exists between variables or that a single variable is no different than its mean.

While an alternative Hypothesis (Ha) attempt to prove that a new theory is true rather than the old one. That a variable is significantly different from the mean.

Therefore, for the case above;

H0 : u = 6

Ha : u not equal to 6.
