Use the elimination method to solve the system of equations. Choose the

correct ordered pair.
3y = x-1
x-2y = 2
A. (12,5)
B. (6,2)
C. (10,4)
D. (4,1)

I will show you how to solve by elimination. You have two equations. The goal of this method is to cancel out one of the variables.

3y=x-1

x-2y=2 ----> 2=x-2y (just flipping it around visually)

If we align the two equation and subtract them...

3y=x-1

-(2=x-2y) "x is canceled out"

---------------

3y-2=-1+2y "one variable equation now"

y=1

Plug in 1 for y into any equation to get corresponding x value.

3y=x-1

3(1)=x-1

x=4

Answer: (4,1)
