the perimeter P is calculated as

P = 2l + 2w

given P = 54 , then

2(2w + 15) + 2w = 54

4w + 30 + 2w = 54

6w + 30 = 54 ( subtract 30 from both sides )

6w = 24 ( divide both sides by 6 )

w = 4

l = 2w + 15 = 2(4) + 15 = 8 + 15 = 23

the length is 23 inches and width is 4 inches
