During two years, the population of birds of an island become 7 times more than before. If the first year increase in the population was 40%, what was the percent increase of the second year?

In 2 years, it becomes 7 times, that would be:

100 * 7 = 700

1st year, the increase is 40%, that is:

40/100 = 0.4

0.4 * 100 = 40

After increase it becomes: 100 + 40 = 140

So, in 2nd year it will become 700 from 140. How much percentage increase is that??

That would be the increased amount (700 - 140 = 560) divided by the 1st year amount (140). Multiply that by 100 to get the percentage. Shown below:

700 - 140 = 560

Now,

560/140 = 4

4 * 100 = 400%
