Why are cases in the U.S. Supreme Court called oral arguments instead of trials?

Probably to sound more formal and less intimidating

to be honest i dont really know why either but at the top of my head i think this is because oral arguement sound more mature and also that oral aguremenat allow the jusdge to intervene and ask questions to both the person and thier lawyer. i really dont know so i dont know it'll help but hope it did. :]
