A mailbox casts a 4 foot shadow. A nearby tree that measures 12 feet casts a 18 foot shadow. Write a proportion that can be used to determine the height of the mailbox

Explanation:

Given a tree which is 12 feet tall casts a 18 feet shadow.

We know that


Tanx=(height of the object)/(length of the shadow)

This Tanx is same for the maialbox too so


(height of the mailbox)/(length of the shadow)=(height of the tree)/(length of the shadow)


(height)/(4)= (12)/(18)

height = 2.66 foot
