While playing basketball in PE class, 67 kg Johan lost his balance after making a lay-up at 5.4 m/s and collided with the padded wall behind the basket and came to rest in 0.24 seconds. What force acted on his body?

Since acceleration,
a=\frac {v-u}{t} where v and u are final and initial velocities, t is time taken. Considering that he comes to rest, v=0 and u is given as 5.4 m/s, t=0.24 s.

Therefore


F=ma=m\frac {v-u}{t}=67* \frac {0-5.4}{0.24}=-1507.5\approx -1500 N
