Given:

XZ = 16

YZ = 12

Since the triangle is not shown:

Assuming it is a right angled triangle with right angle at ∠Z.

We have drawn the triangle for your reference.

Now by Using Pythagoras theorem we get;


XZ^2+YZ^2=XY^2

Substituting the values we get;


XY^2 = 16^2+12^2 = 256+144 =400

Now taking square root on both side we get;


√(XY)=√(400)\\\\XY =20

Hence The value of XY is 20.
