Answer:

Maximum time the teacher should allow for the whole test should be = 55 minutes

Explanation:

Number of easy questions in the test = 50

Number of hard questions in the test = 20

Time for each easy question = 30 seconds =
30\ sec*(1\ min)/(60 sec)=0.5\ min

[As 1 minute = 60 seconds]

Time for each hard question = 1 minute 30 seconds =
1\ min+(30\ sec*(1\ min)/(60 sec))=1\ min+0.5\ min=1.5\ min

Using unitary method to find duration of whole test.

If 1 easy question takes = 0.5 minutes

Then, 50 easy questions will take =
50* 0.5\ min = 25 minutes

If 1 hard question takes = 1.5 minutes

Then, 20 hard questions will take =
20* 1.5\ min = 30 minutes

Total time for the test will be =
25\ min+30\ min = 55 minutes
