John is creating a Thanksgiving display at the store where he works, using only canned pumpkin and canned green beans. He needs to maintain a ratio of pumpkin to green beans of 5 to 2. If he wants to use a total of 105 cans, how many cans of green beans should he use?

Number of green beans John should use is 30

Solution:

Given that ratio of pumpkin to green beans is 5 to 2

pumpkin : green beans = 5 : 2

Let "5a" be the number of canned pumpkins

Let "2a" be the number of canned green beans

John wants to use a total of 105 cans

number of canned pumpkins + number of canned green beans = 105

5a + 2a = 105

7a = 105

a = 15

number of canned green beans = 2a = 2(15) = 30

Thus number of green beans John should use is 30
