I only know how to explain it using a realish scenario

So let’s pretend that we know the value of n

That “number” will in this case be 10

Now the question states: Which expression represents 5 less than 10

We know that the words “less than” really will turn into a subtraction sign(-)

Knowing all of this, we can write 5 less than the number 10

This will be 10-5

But, since I’m this actual equation we don’t know the value of n, it will remain n-5
