PLEASE HELP MEEEE

Beatrice threw a stone one and seven fourteenths yards. Tilly threw a stone nine fourteenths of a yard. What is a reasonable estimate of the difference between their two throws?

Answer: About 1 yard is a reasonable estimate.

Explanation:

1 ⁷/₁₄ is a yard and a half

⁹/₁₄ is just a bit more than half a yard

Rounding that off to half a yard, and finding the difference leaves about 1 yard.

The actual difference is ¹²/₁₄ of a yard the same as ⁶/₇ of a yard, or just about 5¹/₂ inches less than a yard.
