Read the excerpt from “A Journey West.”
Every disaster made my doubts stronger. But Rosetta just pulled herself up straight, set her shoulders, and said, “Well, I guess there’s nothing for it but to keep going. Let’s see what’s over the horizon, because it’ll be better than what’s here.”

Today, our milk cow fell in a gully. My doubts finally won out, and I didn’t think we would ever be able to build a good life in this barren, harsh, unforgiving land.

“It’s all my fault, Rosie,” I said sadly. “If I hadn’t dreamed those silly dreams, we never would have come to this terrible place.”
Which type of conflict is shown in the excerpt?
1. an internal conflict; Nate is regretting his decision to move west
2. an internal conflict; Nate is confused by Rosetta’s words
3. an external conflict; Rosetta believes Nate’s dreams to be silly
4. an external conflict; Rosetta now believes they should turn back

Answer:

3.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the first paragraph, first sentence, she claims that her doubts are going stronger and based off the rest of the story, she's starting to think more and more that Nate's dreams are nothing more then mere fantasy. She still keeps going though, as if determined to prove her point of his dreams not being real.
