22 child tickets were sold on thursday

Solution:

Let "c" be the number of child ticktes sold

Let "a" be the number of adult tickets sold

Cost of 1 child ticket = $ 5.30

Cost of 1 adult ticket = $ 8.70

Given that On Thursday, four times as many adult tickets as child tickets were sold

So we can say,

number of adult tickets sold = 4 x number of child ticktes sold

a = 4c --- eqn 1

Tickets were sold for a total sales of $882.20:

So we can frame a equation as:

number of child ticktes sold x Cost of 1 child ticket + number of adult tickets sold x Cost of 1 adult ticket = 882.20

c * 5.30 + a * 8.70 = 882.20

5.3c + 8.7a = 882.2 ---- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2 to find values of "a" and "c"

Substitute eqn 1 in eqn 2,

5.3c + 8.7(4c) = 882.2

5.3c + 34.8c = 882.2

40.1c = 882.2

c = 22

Thus 22 child tickets were sold on thursday
