This just the way I do it.

Take your y from your second ordered pair, then subtract it by the y from your first ordered pair.

-4-7

Then put it over a line, and underneath it take your x from your second ordered pair, and then subtract it by the x from your first ordered pair.

-4-7

-6-(-4)

Then solve. Well, -4-7 is -11.

-11 .

-6-(-4)

Then solve the bottom. The two negatives make a positive, so instead of -6--4, it can be seen as -6+4. -6+4 is -2.

-11

-2

-11/-2 is the same thing as 11/2

Divide (if your teacher likes it simplified fully)

The answer would either be 11/2, 5.5 or 5 1/2, depending on the way you like it, or the way your teacher wants it.

Answer:

y = 11/2x + 29

Explanation:

Find the slope of the 2 points using the formula m = y2-y1/x2-x1

So, (-4) - 7/(-6) - (-4)

Therefore, our slope is equal to -11/-2, 2 negatives make a positive, so finally our slope is equal to 11/2.

Pick a point, in this case I'll use (-4,7) use the formula y - y1 = m(x - x1)

Plug in, we get y - 7 = 11/2(x - -4)

Again, 2 negatives make a positive, so let's rewrite our equation.

y - 7 = 11/2(x + 4)

Distribute, and you get y - 7 = 11/2x + 22

Add 7 to both sides, final answer is y = 11/2x + 29.

Remember these formulas. To find the slope use m = y2-y1 over x2 - x1.

Then, after finding the slope of 2 points, use y - y1 = m (x - x1).

Remember, when finding the y = mx + b form of two points, only use one point to create the point-slope form.

Hope this helps!
