The role depended on the wealth. If you were in a poorer family, you would care for children, cook, farm, and other chores. If you were in a wealthier family, your slaves and nannies will do the chores. instead, the mother would tend the husband, arrange social events, and look over the household. No matter what social class, all mothers knew how to knit and sew.
