`x+x+y=53`

`2x+y=53` .......................(2)

Plugging the value of y from equation (1) in equation (2)

`2x+2x-7=53`

`4x-7=53`

`4x=60`

`x=15`

Plugging the value of x in equation (1)

`y=2* (15)-7`

`y=23`
