you plan to join a gym near your new home. universe fitness will charge you $250/year plus an additional $3.50 per fitness class you attend. silver's gym charges $400/year but only $2 per fitness class. find the number of fitness class you would need to attend in a year for the cost of both gyms to be the same. what would be the cost of using either gym at that point?

Answer:

The number of fitness classes is 100 and the cost is $600.

Explanation:

Let the number of fitness class is x.

For attending Universe fitness the cost for the whole year will be
250 + 3.50x

Silver gym will charge
400 + 2x in total.

Since, these costs are same

400 + 2x = 250 + 3.50x\\150 = 1.5x\\x = 100

Hence, the desired number is 100.

For both gym the cost is same to attend 100 classes.

Hence we can calculate the cost from either of them.

The cost is
400 + 2 *100 = 600
