What is the x-coordinate in the solution of the system of equations

y =-2/3x and 4x – 9y = -40?

y = -2/3 x multiply both sides the first equation by 6

6y = -4x Add 4x to both sides.

6y + 4x = 0

-9y +4x = - 40 Subtract the bottom equation

15y = - 40 Divide by 15

y = -40/15

y = - 2.7

6y = -4x

6*(-2.67) = -4x

-16 = - 4x

x = - 16/-4

x = 4
