Tenses

Some of the verbs are in the present tense when they should be in the past tense. Find these words and change them to the proper tense.
Be careful not to add any extra numbers, letters or spaces that are not part of your answer.
Colleague of the Year
A couple of months ago, we had our annual Colleague of the Year' presentation. It was especially exciting for me as I had been nominated for
the New Colleague' award. As the Managing Director read out the nominations my heart starts to pound and when he comes to who actually
won, I almost fainted. It was me!
I get out of my chair and walk up to the stage, my legs wobbling. The MD gave me the microphone but it was some time before I could
actually speak. "Thank you so much." I think I said. "I am so proud at being given this award."
When I got back to my table, I sank into my chair, grabs a drink of water and only then did I notice that as well as the Award trophy I had a
cheque for £100.

Answer:

  • started
  • came
  • got
  • walked
  • grabbed

Step-by-step explanation:

The first verb that needs to be changed is start, which should be changed to started because the story is being told in the past tense. The next verb that needs to be changed is come, which needs to be changed to came since the person reading the speech was doing it in the past tense. Get should be changed to got for the same reason, and walked and grabbed also have to be in the past tense since they are part of the story.
