the domain is the interval or set of all valid x values.

as we can see, the function goes continuously from all the way to the left (until all eternity to -infinity) all the way to the right (until all eternity to +infinity).

the domain is

-infinity < x < +infinity

the range is the interval or set of all valid y (function result) values.

we see, the lowest y value is -1. and then the function goes on both sides up, up, up in all eternity to +infinity.

the range is

-1 <= y < +infinity

f(x) is decreasing for

-infinity < x < -1

f(x) is increasing for

-1 < x < +infinity
