The surface area covered by a rectangular playground is 200 yards. The width of the playground is twice as long as it's length. Using factors, find the length and the width of the playground

Given,

Area of the rectangular playground = 200 yards.

Solution,

Let the length of the playground be x.

Then the width of the playground is 2x.

Now, According to the formula of area of rectangle;


Area\ of\ rectangle =length* width

On substituting the values, we get;


x* 2x=200\\\\2x^2=200\\\\x^2=(200)/(2)=100\\\\x^2=100\\\\x=√(100)\\\\x=10\ yards\\

So the length of the playground is 10 yards.

Since the width is twice of the length.

So width =
2x=2* 10=20\ yards

Hence the length is 10 yards and the width is 20 yards of the playground.
