Answer:

The average speed of the trip there is 86 mph.

Explanation:

Given:

Time taken to reach Portland = 3 hours

Time taken to come beck from Portland = 6 hours

Average speed for the returning trip = 43 mph

Distance traveled for the returning trip can be obtained by multiplying the returning speed by returning time. Therefore, distance for returning trip is:

D=speed* time=43* 6=258\ miles

Now, distance traveled for the return trip is same as going to the trip.

So, distance traveled by Jessica going to Portland = 258 miles.

Time taken to go there = 3 hours

Therefore, speed of the trip there is given as the ratio of distance and time and is given as:

\textrm{Average speed}=(Distance)/(Time)\\\textrm{Average speed}=(258)/(3)=86\ mph

Therefore, the average speed of Jessica's car to go to Portland is 86 mph.
