A bag contains 8 red marbles, 6 blue marbles and 2 green marbles. If two marbles are

drawn out of the bag, what is the probability, to the nearest 10th of a percent, that
both marbles drawn will be blue?

Answer:

12.5%

Explanation:

8 + 6 + 2 = 16

for the first turn the chance to get a blue is 6/16

for the second turn the chance to get a blue would be 5/15

multiply them and you get 30/240, which comes down to 1/8

1/8 = 0.125 = 12.5%

There are 16 total marbles with 6 blue ones.

Picking a blue one first is 6/16, reduces to 3/8

After picking a blue one first there are 5 blue ones left and 15 total marbles, so picking another blue would be 5/15, reduces to 1/3

The probability of picking both blue, multiply the two together:

3/8 x 1/3 = 3/24 = 1/8 = 0.125 x 100 = 12.5%
