Charges are :-

$ 18 for the first three lines of the add and $6.50 for each additional line

Thus,

for x ≤ 3 , cost will be c(x) = 18x

and if x > 3 , cost for the first 3 lines will be 18×3 = 54 dollars and then cost will increase by $6.50 for each additional line.

Thus c(x) = 54 + 6.5(x - 3)

So, the piecewise defined function c(x) can be represented by :-

c(x) =

  • 18x for x≤3
  • 54 + 6.5(x - 3) for x >3
