A rectangular swimming pool has a length twice as long as it’s width. The pool has a sidewalk around it that is 2 feet wide. Write an expression that would help you find the area of the pool and it’s sidewalk.

Answer:

Pool area=Inner rectangle=
2x^(2)

Area of walkway=
12x+16

Explanation:

Let the width of the rectangular swimming pool be x

so, length will be 2x

Area of walkway = area of outer rectangle - area of inner rectangle

Area of outer rectangle=
(x+4)*(2x+4)=2x^(2)+12x+16

Area of inner rectangle=
x*2x=2x^(2)

Area of walkway=
2x^(2)+12x+16-2x^(2)=12x+16
