Norman enjoyed playing softball and, in many ways, he was an excellent player. He got along with other players, coaches, and umpires, he was a good runner, and he could catch and throw the ball. However, Norman simply wasn't much of a batter. He figured he just wasn't meant to be good at it, while some people were born with that talent. Still, Norman wished, more than anything, that he was a good batter like Micky.
