A recipe for honey syrup calls for 1.5 cups of honey mixed with 0.5 cups of water. Amberleigh will follow the recipe's ratios to make honey syrup, but plans to use an entire bottle of honey, which has a total volume of 3.5 cups. How many cups of water must Amberleigh use?

Answer:

Amberleigh has to use 1.16 cups of water to mix with 3.5 cups honey syrup to make the recipe.

Explanation:

Given,

Amount of honey in the syrup = 1.5 cup

Amount of water in the syrup = 0.5 cup

We have to calculate amount of water that is mixed into the honey to make syrup.

Here Amberleigh is following the recipe's ratio but the amount of honey is 3.5 cup.

So we use the unitary method to find out the amount of water.

If 1.5 cup of is used then amount of water = 0.5 cup

∴ 1 cup of is used then amount of water =
(0.5)/(1.5)

∴ 3.5 cup of is used then amount of water =
(0.5)/(1.5)*3.5=(1.75)/(1.5)=1.16

Hence Amberleigh has to use 1.16 cups of water to mix with 3.5 cups honey syrup to make the recipe.
