Up in the North Pole, several elves were playing catch. One of the elves threw a ball up into the air at a speed of 22.0 m/s. Unfortunately for them, while they were waiting for it to come down, the abominable snowman jumped out of the forest and ended up catching the ball 3.6 seconds after It was thrown. How fast was the ball going?

Answer:

The ball would falling back with a speed of 13.28 m/s.

Step-by-step explanation:

writing the equation of motion:

v = u + at

where v is the final velocity, u is the initial velocity.

Given u = 22 m/s, t = 3.6 s, and g = -9.8 m/s

since g is in opposite direction of velocity it would be negative.

substituting the values in the equation;

v = 22 -
9.8* 3.6

therefore v = -13.28 m/s
