Putting into the formula,

L=8 and (X1, Y1)=(1,-4) and (X2,Y2)=(1,Y2)


L=\sqrt{(X2-X1)^(2) + (Y2-Y1)^(2) }


8=\sqrt{(1-1)^(2) + (Y2-(-4))^(2) }


64=(Y2-(-4))^(2)


8=(Y2+4)


Y2=4
