We know:

The diagonals of the parallelogram are divided in half.

Therefore

EK ≅ KG and HK ≅ KF.

We have

EK = 7x + 5, KG = 3x + 17, HK = 3y - 11 and KF = y + 5

Equations:

(1) 7x + 5 = 3x + 17

(2) 3y - 11 = y + 5

Solutions:

7x + 5 = 3x + 17 subtract 5 from both sides

7x + 5 - 5 = 3x + 17 - 5

7x = 3x + 12 subtract 3x from both sides

7x - 3x = 3x - 3x + 12

4x = 12 divide both sides by 4

4x/4 = 12/4

x = 3

3y - 11 = y + 5 add 11 to both sides

3y - 11 + 11 = y + 5 + 11
