Answer:

19 yellow marbles

Explanation:

Let Y = yellow marbles and G = green marbles

Given that there are 28 marbles in total,

i.e Y + G = 28 --------- (eq 1)

also given that the number of yellow marbles is 1 more than 2 times the number of green marbles

i.e Y = 2G + 1 --------(eq 2)

substituting eq 2 into eq 1,

Y = 2G + 1

(2G + 1 ) + G = 28

2G + 1 + G = 28

3G + 1 = 28

3G = 28 - 1

3G = 27

G = 27 / 3

G = 9 (substitute this into eq 2)

Y = 2G + 1

Y = 2(9) + 1

Y = 18 + 1

Y = 19
