Why is ray defined as a term

Answer:

Because it can be.

Explanation:

We like to define as many terms as possible in math. The terms "point", "line", and "plane" cannot be defined in terms of other words that have definitions, so those remain undefined. A "ray", however, can be defined in terms of "point" and "line", so it is.
