The first stage of the Triangular Trade consisted in Europeans' bringing their manufactured goods (weapons, clothes, jewellery, alcohol...) by ship to Africa, to be exchanged for African slaves.

This process was started in the mid-sixteenth century (around 1554) and was ended gradually in the nineteenth century.
