For this problem, we need to do a Proportion.

Definition: A Proportion is a new way of combining Ratio tables and Equivalent ratios.

To solve this problem, we need to figure out the third number, so to make this reasonable 3 pints equals 1 lemonade concentrate.

So 3/1 = 15/?

We got our problem set up now!
But wait, we need to label so we know where to put what number. So this is your actual problem:

3 pints = 15 pints
_____________
1 L.C. = ? L.C.

So to solve this equation we need to find the missing, so we need to look at the numerators, how does 3 get to 15?

That’s right, 5 times.

But,”Whatever we do to the top, we have to do to the bottom.

So 1 x 5 equals 5. So your work should look like this:

3 pints = 15 pints
_____________
1 L.C = 5 L.C

Then last, take your answer out, it’s 5 L.C.

What we did this whole time:

We learned about how to solve Proportions with fractions, labels, simple multiplication and division.

Hope this helps, have a great night.
