In a class of 25 students, the following test scores were obtained:

51,59,59,59,67,68,68,69,69,71,73,73,75,75,78,79,82,84,85,85,87,91,92,93,93

A histogram of interval width 10 starting with the interval [50,60] was constructed using the above data.

Which statement is true about this distribution as depicted by the histogram?

A) It is a unimodal symmetric distribution
B) The distribution is skewed left
C) It is uniform distribution
D) It is bimodal distribution

Answer:

Explanation:

Firstly,we need to find the mean, median and mode to enable us know the type of distribution it exhibit.

Mode-data with the highest frequency that is data that has the highest repetition which is 59.

Median-the middle data which is 75.

Mean-average of the data that is addition of the data divided by 25 which gives 75.4 approximately equals to 75

Distribution is unimodal symmetric if it has one clear peak(one mode) and mean = median , so Option A is right

Distribution is skewed left if the mean is less than median and the mode is less than the median that is mean is less than the median, and they are both less than the mode. So option B is wrong.

A distribution is uniform if all outcomes are likely to be the same,it is usually a rectangular shaped distribution. So option C is wrong

A distribution is bimodal if it has two modes. This means that there are two data values that tie for having the highest frequency but as for this data we have only one data with the highest frequency so option D is wrong

Option A is correct
