Before the California Gold Rush in 1848, this was the first significant gold rush in the United States. Started in 1829 in present-day Lumpkin County, so much gold was found that a branch mint of the United States mint was established here in 1838.

Dahlonega Gold Rush

Step-by-step explanation:

The Dahlonega Gold Rush started in Georgia when a resident accidentally stumbled across gold. Word got out and many people came from miles and miles away to get a chance at getting some gold. Dahlonega is known to be the first gold rush in the United States, but it was not bigger than the California Gold Rush. It started in 1829 and lasted around 10 years, as gold readily became scarce and the California Gold Rush started which caused people to head west in hopes of finding more.
