It is believed that the proportion of women in the real estate profession is 65%.A local real estate group believes that this percentage is higher. The real estate group chooses a random sample of 80 real estate agents and found that 54 are female. They carry out a test of significance at the 10% level to test this claim.Question 11Not yet answeredPoints out of 1.00What are the null and alternative hypotheses?Select one:a. H0: p = 0.10 and HA: p > 0.10b. H0: p = 0.65 and HA: p > 0.65c. H0: p = 0.65 and HA: p = 0.675d. H0: μ = 0.65 and HA: μ < 0.65

Answer:

b. H0: p = 0.65 and HA: p > 0.65

Explanation:

The null hypothesis should be

  • the proportion of women in the real estate profession is 65%

And the alternative hypothesis should be

  • the proportion of women in the real estate profession is higher than 65%

After sample z-statistic and corresponding p-value under the conditions assumed in null hypothesis has to be calculated and compared against %10 significance level p-critical

If the p-value is smaller than p-critical then we can reject the null hypothesis in favor of alternative hypothesis and conclude that the proportion of women in the real estate profession is higher than 65%.
