There are 1096 marbles in a bag. One of the marbles is to be randomly chosen from the bag. If the probability that a red marble will be selected is 5/8, how many red marbles are in a bag?

Answer: 685 red marbles

Explanation:

Lets set up a proportion:

x/1096 = 5/8

(For every 8 marbles, 5 of them are red)

Then we cross multiply

5480 = 8x

and divide!

so 685 marbles
