Answer:

Nick's assertion that he is one of the few honest people he has ever known is questionable in light of this behavior at several points in the novel.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the narrator Nick says everyone thinks they have at least one of the cardinal virtues. In his opinion, the one he possesses is honesty. As he says at the end of Chapter 3, "Every one suspects himself of at least one of the cardinal virtues, and this is mine: I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known."

When we look up the meaning for the adjective honest, we find it refers to someone who is sincere, who can be trusted, who is very unlikely to cheat, steal, or lie. Still, throughout the novel, Nick may not cheat or lie for himself, but he does so for others. He condones with the sick and vulgar behavior of those around him. He even helps them lie so that they can have their affairs, as he does for Gatsby and Daisy. Therefore, even though he thinks of himself as honest, his behavior at several points in the novel questions such opinion.
