Josh walked a total of 5 miles today. First he walked 1 mile from his house to the park. Then he walked

laps around the 1/2 mile loop trail at the park. Finally, he walked back home. How many laps did Josh walk
around the trail?

I'm so confused on this

We know that the distance to the park is 1 mile. The distance is the same if he travels the same way back home, which we are assuming is what happened.

The distance traveled back and forth: 1 + 1 = 2 miles

We can subtract to find how many miles he still needed to walk: 5 - 2 = 3 miles.

To find how many times Josh walked around the trail, we can divide: 3 / 1/2 = 6 laps around the trail which is equal to 3 miles.

Check our answer: 3 + 2 = 5 (true)
