The area of the walkway is 19x – 32.5

Solution:

Given that, a rectangular garden has a walkway around it.

The area of the garden is 4(3.5x+1.5)

The combined area of the garden and the walkway is 5.5(6x+5)

We have to find the area of the walkway around the garden as the sum of two terms.

Now, we know that,

area of walkway = combined area of garden and walkway – area of garden

So, area of walkway = 5.5(6x + 5) – 4(3.5x + 15)

Area = 33x + 27.5 – 14x – 60

Area = 33x – 14x + 27.5 – 60

Area = 19x – 32.5

Hence, the area of the walkway is 19x – 32.5
