Saying that a number is negative is telling you how far away from zero it is. So the more negative a number is the smaller it is, since you are moving farther and farther from zero. -3 is less then -2 because it it MORE negative. Obviously 3 is more than 2, so adding the negative sign tells you that 3 will be be farther from zero. (Keep in mind when I say farther from zero I mean moving to the left on the number line into the negative numbers). So since -3 is farther from zero it’s a smaller number. Look at the number line I attached, you can see that as you move left the number become smaller. 4 is to the left of 5, and 4 is baller than 5. -3 is to the left of -2, and it is smaller that -2.
