The diagram below shows a paper clip in front of a mirror.

An upright paperclip sits in front of a vertical mirror. An eye looks toward the mirror from below and left of the paperclip. Point 1 is just above the paperclip. Point 2 is parallel with point 1 the same distance behind the mirror as Point 1 is in front. Point 3 is behind the mirror parallel with the center of the paperclip the same distance behind the mirror that the paperclip is in front of it. Point 4 is a bit further behind the mirror than Point 3.
