The engine of a motor boat delivers 30 kW to the propeller while the boat is moving at 15 m/s. What would be the tension in the tow line if the boat were being towed at the same speed?

Tension in tow line is 2000 N

Step-by-step explanation:

Power is the ratio of work and time.

Power, P = (W)/(t)

Work = Force x Displacement

W = F x d

Here force is tension, T

So

W = T x d

Substituting

Power, P = (T* d)/(t)=Tv

We have

Power, P = 30kW = 30000 W

Velocity, v = 15 m/s

Substituting

30000 = T x 15

Tension, T = 2000 N

Tension in tow line, T = 2000 N
